You select the files on your system that you want to protect (family photos, music, financial records etc.) and choose the frequency at which you would like them to back up to your remote storage location in your online account. Storing your files off site (at our top-security data centers) provides the ultimate in protection, safeguarding your files from natural disasters, fire, and theft. - Before your data even leaves your computer, it is encrypted (converted to a secure code or format) utilizing the same methods employed by the U.S. government, military, as and financial institutions.
- A unique username and password is required to access your account. These login credentials are also encrypted in our database. So even if someone were to breach our formidable security measures, they would only end up with unintelligible characters.

Our data centers are staffed 24 hours a day by a dedicated security force. Internet connection
Your data travels from your computer to your Geek Squad Online Data Backup account over the Internet. Your computer must be on and connected to the internet (preferably a high-speed connection) for the transfer to be successful.
How often will it back up?
As often as you’d like. When you install the Geek Squad Online Data Backup software, you will choose the frequency of your data backups: daily, weekly, or monthly; you also pick the time of day (or night). It’s easy to change this setting at any time.
Why does the first back up take so long?
Don’t be alarmed if you first back up seems to take a long time. Even via a high-speed internet connection, backups take approximately eight hours for each gigabyte of data. As your first back up will include everything on your computer you have chosen to back up, the first backup will likely be your largest and will therefore take the most time. Subsequent back ups download only new or updated files, probably reducing the amount of data to be backed up and thus the length of time it take to perform the back up.
How do I access my files remotely?
You can access your files at any time from any computer with an Internet connection. Simply login to your account.
The 25 GB account can store approximately 7,100 digital photos (6 mega pixel high-resolution 3.5 MB images), 6,200 music files (4 MB MP3) or 250,000 word documents (10 KB).
